PROHEART 6 HAS ARRIVED

Maple Veterinary Hospital has ProHeart 6 available for our patients.  With the reintroduction of ProHeart 6 there are several precautionary actions our veterinarians are required to take to protect our patients from adverse reactions.

  • ProHeart 6 is to be used in dogs aged 6 months to 7 years.

  • Older dogs who were started on ProHeart 6 at a young age may be maintained on ProHeart 6 throughout their senior years, they just cannot be started on ProHeart 6 if they are over 7 years of age.

  • ProHeart 6 is not to be used within 30 days of vaccination.

  • Prior to the initial administration of ProHeart 6 each patient needs:

    • A negative heartworm test.

    • A wellness blood test to evaluate base line liver functions, RBC and platelet counts.

  • Dogs with pre-existing allergic diseases such as food allergy, atopy, and flea allergy dermatitis should not use ProHeart 6.

  • Dogs that are sick, debiliatated, underweight or have a history of weight loss should not use ProHeart 6 until their medical conditions are improved.
